Self-Care Tips For Moms

If you’re a mom, 24 hours seem too less, given the amount of multitasking and responsibilities you juggle with on a daily basis. So when it comes to self-care, all you really tend to do is roll your eyes, since that usually finds itself at the bottom of your list.

However, dismissing your own needs eventually has an adverse effect on your little one as well, because how much love, affection and attention can a burned-out, stressed, exhausted and irritable mommy possibly give their child? Hence, it’s very important to put yourself first sometimes and do things that make YOU happy.

To get you started, here are some easy Self-Care tips that take little to no time!

1. Ditch The Mom-Guilt:

This is the first step! You cannot focus on yourself if you’re constantly going to feel like it’s a selfish thing to do. Having a child does change your priorities, but not at the cost of your mental and physical wellbeing. It’s absolutely normal to take a break and do something for yourself every now and then. If anything, it should be mandatory!

2. Keep Your Dreams Alive:

We all have dreams and aspirations, and there’s no reason to curb them after having a child. Keep 10 minutes aside everyday to think about your ambitions and how you plan to manifest them. Give yourself the pep talk you need, and work towards achieving your goals.

3. Hydrate Yourself

We underestimate the power of water! Drinking 2-3 litres of water a day can have a significant impact on your overall mood and health. It increases your efficiency, gives you that natural glow and also supports lactation if you’re breastfeeding.

4. Early Mornings Are Your Best Friend!

Make good use of early mornings to do things you won’t get to do during the day- you could also do nothing at all! Just sit back with a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the beautiful tranquility. You could also sneak in a few minutes of exercise or meditation to give yourself the much needed boost for the long day ahead

5. Find Your Sanctuary

Try to find one cozy corner in your house just for yourself amidst all the scattered toys and baby products, where you can unwind after a long day. A cozy nook with lots of natural light, plants, books and anything and everything you love screams relaxation- and that’s what you need when you’re on a break from baby duty! 

6.  Don’t Forget To Step out!

Staying home confined could be very frustrating. Of course in the initial few weeks, stepping out would be the last thing on your mind..But gradually start stepping out once in a while. If your little one enjoys going on mini car rides or stroller rides, use that to your advantage. Meet your friends, socialise whenever you get a chance- it can be very helpful.

7. Pick A Hobby

It might be tempting to get all your household work and chores done while your little one is sleeping or busy studying or playing, it is also important to do something you enjoyed doing before your little munchkin was born. It could be anything- Reading, Writing, Gardening, Knitting, Painting, etc. We all need a little play time!

8. Focus On Your Body

- Eating healthy and not having long gaps between meals are very important.
- Exercising, walking or meditation should be on your To-Do list everyday, even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
- Try to sync your sleep with your baby’s so you get maximum sleep. Once in a while, let your significant other or someone you trust with your little one handle your baby duties, so you can catch up on that much needed sleep.

It’s not feasible to get hours of me-time in your jam packed routine, hence these small actions go a long way! Don’t wait for things to get “better” or “easier”, there is no right or wrong time to take care of yourself!
