Product Brief
The First and Forever Set
SuRu is a handcrafted Kansa (bronze) dinner set, designed for children aged 0 to 8, but built to be kept for far longer. Created in collaboration with Nakuul Mehta and Jankee Parekh, the set is shaped for how children actually eat and finished with the emotional permanence of an heirloom. It is the answer to a quiet question many young parents are asking today: why does children's dinnerware feel disposable, and what would something that isn't disposable look like?
Designed for How Children Actually Eat
Toddlers do not eat neatly. They grip awkwardly, push bowls across the table, drop the spoon, and lose focus in seconds. SuRu was designed for that reality, not against it. The bowl and spoon are weighted to feel right in tiny hands. A food-grade silicone base on the underside of the plate keeps the set stable through the daily chaos of self-feeding. Every edge is hand-smoothed for safety. The spoon is sized for a toddler's reach and bite. Hand-engraved illustrations turn each meal into a tiny story.
Made Not Just for Today, But for Memory
At a time when most products are designed for convenience and replacement, SuRu offers something slower, softer, and more lasting. It is a child's first dinner set. It is also, quietly, the first piece of an inheritance, a small daily ritual that grows up with them, and stays in the family long after.
Pure Kansa (Bronze) – Ancient, Ayurvedic, and Made to Last
Kansa is the ancient Ayurvedic alloy of copper and tin that has been used in Indian kitchens for over four thousand years. In Ayurveda it is prized for its food-safe purity, its mineral generosity, and the quiet warmth it brings to a meal. SuRu is made in pure Kansa, no plastics, no coatings, no chemical linings, so every meal your child eats from it is as honest as the metal itself.
Handcrafted by the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru
Every SuRu set is made by the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru, Punjab, the master metal artisans P•TAL has worked with since day one. Their craft is inscribed on UNESCO's representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, and P•TAL is the brand carrying it into the homes of a new generation. Every plate, bowl, glass, and spoon is hand-shaped, hand-hammered, and hand-engraved in workshops where families have practised the same craft for seven generations.
